The market for natural gas vehicles was largely founded on the need to improve air quality in America's urban areas in the early '90's. Natural gas offered reduced emissions at the core of its value proposition as a transportation fuel.
Those benefits are even stronger today.
Piedmont Natural Gas operates a network of publicly accessible compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations for fleets and personal natural gas vehicles within our three-state service area in the Carolinas and Tennessee. These fast-fill stations are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
State and local governments offer incentives to encourage the adoption of natural gas vehicles. These regulatory efforts are designed to reduce dependence on oil for transportation and reduce emissions and greenhouse gases. Through the United States v. Volkswagen Group of America et al., Volkswagen AG has agreed to spend $14.7 billion to settle allegations of cheating emissions standards. Of that amount, $2 billion will be spent on national zero emission vehicle investments, and $2.9 billion will be used to establish an Environmental Mitigation Trust, which states and territories may use to invest in transportation projects that will reduce NOx emissions.
Piedmont’s commitment to providing safe, reliable natural gas service
extends to the CNG stations it builds and operates. Whether it is station
design/construction, maintenance services or providing natural gas delivery
service for your station needs, Piedmont is available to walk you through the
process and provide trusted advice.
